Each month we share National Holidays and Awareness Days that are celebrated during that month.
September 4th – National Wildlife Day
National Wildlife Day is a day to encourage awareness of the species in nature. The goal of this day is to focus on conservation and preservation of endangered species.
September 5th – International Charity Day
International Charity Day was originally a day to commemorate Mother Teresa’s death and. In 2012 the UN declared it an international holiday. This holiday provides a platform for charitable opportunities to occur. International Charity Day reminds us that simple acts of charity can create more inclusive societies.
September 6th – Labor Day
Labor Day is a federal holiday to recognize the American labor movement and the contributions of laborers to the developments of the US.
September 7th – World Duchenne Awareness Day
World Duchenne Awareness Day is a day aimed to raise awareness for those affected by Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy. This is a day that is very near and dear to our family. To learn more about our Duchenne journey and to find out how you can help, please read my blog post here.
September 8th – International Literacy Day
Literacy is the ability to read and write and a very important of everyday life. Literacy Day is celebrated to remind us of the importance of literacy.
September 10th – World Suicide Prevention Day
Awareness of the preventable yet growing act of suicide is observed on September 10th. Suicide is the leading cause of death in ages 15-29
September 11th – Patriot Day
Patriot Day is a day to commemorate those that we lost and the brave first responders who put their lives on the lines on September 11th, 2001.
September 12th – Grandparent’s Day
Grandparents Day is a celebrate the special connection between grandparents and grandchildren.
September 14th – Cream-Filled Donut Day
This is a day to celebrate the cream-filled donut!
September 19th – Talk like a Pirate Day
Did you know that talk like a pirate day was actually started by two friends as a joke in 1995? Although real pirates probably didn’t use the pirate vocabulary we do today, it is still a fun holiday and you can learn some history.
September 21st – International Day of Peace
International Day of Peace was started in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme for 2021 is recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.
September 29th – National Coffee Day
Today is a day to celebrate coffee! If you’re anything like me though you do not need a special day to do that!
