Each month we share National Holidays and Awareness Days that are celebrated during that month.

January 2nd – World Introvert Day

This is a day for Introverts to recover from the busy holiday season. Introverts worldwide get to rest and recharge their batteries.  

 

January 4th – World Braille Day

January 4th is Louis Braille’s birthday! Louis invented Braille after he lost his eyesight as a child. He would spend years at the Royal Institute for Blind Youth developing and perfecting the system of raised dots. 

 

January 9th – National Word Nerd Day

This is a day to use some old words and learn some new words! 

January 11th – National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Human trafficking is a general sense is exploitation of others. The injustice of trafficking can affect any person of any background and we need to fight human trafficking wherever it exists. 

January 13th – National Rubber Ducky Day

Did you know that the first rubber ducky was made in the 1800’s? The rubber ducky was made out of vinyl and plastic during World War I and II. Landon Smart Lawerence patented the ducky in 1928. Ernie from Sesame Street first sang to his rubber ducky in 1970. 

January 17th – Martin Luther King Jr Day

Martin Luther King Jr Day is an official day of service and a day to honor the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his actions in the civil rights movement.
