Meet a Mom: Julie Stone, Owner of Bella Voce Studio | South Central PA Moms

Hi, Introduce yourself to us: Hello! My name is Julie Stone! I am a voice/singing teacher and coach and the owner of Bella Voce Studio in Mountville.

How many children do you have and how old are they? I am a mom of 4 kids. Jackson, age 16, Landon, age 14, Sierra, age 11,  and Luke age 9.

What are some of your favorite things to do with your kids? Our family likes to hike, play loud games, and watch movies together. And, I am a soccer/volleyball/basketball/baseball mom!

What inspires you and what are you passionate about? I’m kind of a nerd…I love learning about how the brain works and how it influences what we think and what we do. I also love personality tests for a similar reason. I get inspired by stories of people who overcome challenges and obstacles in their lives to achieve great things!

I believe that people have great potential and that God has given us unique gifts and callings. It’s our job to cultivate those gifts and serve others with them! I am super passionate about giving people the tools they need to sing with more confidence. I believe that means teaching them the techniques of good, efficient singing so that they can use their voices with freedom and ease. But it also means helping them push out of a fixed mindset that says, “I was born with the voice I’ve got and I’m stuck with it”. Whether you want to be a Broadway sensation, a choir singer, involved in worship team, or just comfortable singing your kids to sleep, I truly believe that everyone can learn to use their voices better and get comfortable with the way they sound.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do? I am a voice teacher and coach. I own and operate Bella Voce Studio where I teach private voice lessons and voice and piano classes. The studio is located in the Dayspring Christian Academy building in Mountville, PA. I’ve been serving the Dayspring community with lessons for many years and now that my children are older, I’m excited to begin offering lessons and classes to more people in the community! I teach students of all ages! It’s never too late to learn to sing, for sure!

If I had to boil everything I do down into one phrase, it’s this: become a confident singer! And yes, it can be done! The voice is our natural, God-given instrument, so learning to use it and become secure in our own voice uniqueness is a really important part of personal well-being for many people!  My website is sopranojam.com.

What is one thing you’ve learned in the past year? One of the best practices that I’ve put into place in the last year or so is the idea that I can “choose better thoughts”.

It is so easy to compare ourselves to others, to focus on the way we feel or our less than ideal circumstances. Perhaps we feel insecure or negative or ashamed or small.  But feelings aren’t truth. Feelings come from thoughts, especially pre-programmed thoughts. So, in order to create the life that I want to live and to be the person that I want to become, I must choose my thoughts. When something negative creeps in or I feel despair or frustration at my circumstances, I take that thought captive and examine it to see if it is true or not. If it is not true, I do my best to discard that thought and replace it with one that is true. It’s hard work, but honestly, it has been life-changing for me!

What is the best advice you have received? “Everything is figureoutable”. This is a quote and a book by Marie Forleo. I love this advice because when I feel stuck, I must remember, “everything IS figureoutable”! (Especially with youtube and google!)
